Gizmo fell from a meat production truck in Georgia and was rescued by Cher Lynn Thewes. She took Gizmo to the veterinarian and cared for her until she was able to find her forever home here at the sanctuary.

Scarlett is where the story begins.

Ten years ago, a tiny black piglet named Scarlett arrived at what would become Southern Oaks Sanctuary. She had been dropped off for temporary care, but her future was uncertain—she was at risk of being used as bait for hog hunting.

Instead, she was rescued.
